Aiming at increasing its railway performance, CBA implements Logmax platform
CBA - Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio is one of the largest aluminum companies in Brazil and Latin America. Inaugurated in 1955, it produces high quality aluminum in an integrated and sustainable manner. With installed capacity to produce 100% of energy from its own hydroelectric plants, CBA mines bauxite, transforms it into primary aluminum (ingots, billets, rebars and plates) and processed products (sheets, coils, sheets and profiles). It belongs to Votorantim SA and is located in the city of Alumínio-SP.
CBA uses two railway concessionaires to transport bauxite, which is an input for its production process at the aluminum plant in Aluminum-SP. Before the implementation of the Logmax platform, the entire process of controlling the operation of trains was carried out in excel spreadsheets, with low visibility of the location of the cars and difficulty in calculating the performance indicators.
Diego Duarte, from CBA's Supply Chain Division, is one of those responsible for the company's transport management and says that the Logmax platform eliminated manual labor when determining the indicators for the railway cycle, transported volume and system productivity. He also describes that the solution allowed for transparency in the process and guaranteed the interface between the company and the contracted railway concessionaires.
“The implementation process was challenging, since we needed to integrate operations with two railway concessionaires (VLI and MRS), which operate in sync with our wagon unloading operations. The next step now is to automate road and yard operations, integrating all information into a complete management BI ”, adds Diego Duarte.
